Application for Promotion

You are responsible for preparing and submitting your application via the appropriate route by the deadline specified in the timetable. Your application should provide evidence and examples that best support your case for promotion and clearly demonstrate how you meet the Assessment Criteria for the relevant office/post and pathway, referring to the Indicators of Excellence for guidance. This section sets out certain requirements relating to the application form and basic content of required information.

You must present your case for promotion in a concise manner, avoiding duplication where possible.  Your application must be a maximum of 30 pages, including all attachments. Applicants on the R&T pathway who are required to submit their application via the ACP Application Portal can check this by downloading a PDF copy of their application from the portal.

The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

You are expected to apply the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), of which the University is a signatory.  You must not make any reference to “high impact”, “high quality”, “influential”, “high ranking”, “top tier” or “Q1 (1st quartile)” journals, or use any other such language that suggests a journal, publisher or other dissemination outlet is superior. Assessment will be made on the quality and the impact of the research itself, and not on where it has been published or shared, or on the quantity of outputs. Assessment will be inclusive of different output types, to include publicly available outputs such as articles, books, book chapters, reports, exhibitions, datasets, software, artefacts, etc. See the DORA guidelines and the University’s Open Research Position Statement for more information.

How to submit your application

Applicants on the R&T pathway must submit their application via the ACP Application Portal.  The ACP Application Portal will guide you through the sections of the form, as detailed here.  Guidance on using the ACP Application Portal can be found in the User Guide for Applicants.

Applicants on the T&S and R pathways must complete the relevant application form. The details of submission will be confirmed in due course.
